Read the historical cause of Russia-Ukrainia fight

(Russian Military)

In the 19th century, there was a State called Kiev Ruse. The Slavic people ruled there. Kiev was the capital of Kiev Ruse between 980 and 1015. It was ruled by a leader called Price Volodymir. In Russia, the name means Vladimir and in Ukraine it means Volodymir. These are also the names of the president of Russia and Ukraine respectively. Ukraine and Russia draw their lineage from this Slavic state.

A lot of things changed in power and Ukraine was under Russian Rule. Ukraine and Russia constituted the 15 Soviet Federal republics. Russian is the most powerful followed by Ukraine. During the cold war, Ukraine was the arch rival of the United States.

In 1991, Ukraine became independent. Ukraine inherited much of soviet nuclear weapons but gave it up to Russia in exchange for two things:

1. That Russia will guarantee Ukraine's security

2. That Russia will respect Ukraine's sovereignty.

They both signed this budapest agreement of memorandum along with other countries that constitute Soviet Federal republics.

Fast forward to 2013, Yanukorych was the president of Ukraine. He had bad reputation of heavy-handness in corruption and above all, he declared his support openly for Russia. In 2013, he rejected to sign E.U trade deal with European Union. This deal could have meant greater integration with the European Union. Instead, Yanukorych decided to take 15 billion dollars bailouts from Russia.

Some Ukrainians felt they had been sold and protests broke out. These protests were called Euromaidan because these protests were about Europ and Maidan because it happened in Kiev's Maidan. The protesters wanted Yanukovyech to step down or sign EU trade deal.

In 2014, the president was ousted and driven away from the country. He fled to Russia. Many Russians speaking people in Ukraine were not happy with the people of Ukraine because they want Yanukorych to continue as the president but the minority felt disenfranchised. Russian as a country was angry because it felt it has lost its puppet.

Crimea
For Russia to salvage the situation, Moscow annexed Crimea. Why Crimea? Crimea is located in Peninsula. Crimea, Russia and Ukraine have the same ethnography. In 1954, the leader of Soviet republics Nikita Khrushchev transferred Crimea. It was given to the Ukrainian soviet Socialist republic. He did this in order to foster love and unity between Ukraine and Russia. This didn't mean much between them because Crimea was part of the soviet union. When Ukraine became independent in 1991, Crimea followed it and Peninsula was given a special autonomy. It remained a home to Russia military bases till date. Russia promised to respect Crimea autonomy.

Not long after this, Russia began to raise objections to Crimea autonomy. Russia opined that they should not have been allowed to join Ukraine.

2014 Saga
Russian military began seizing government buildings in Crimea so the entire Peninsula was under Military occupation. After meetings upon meetings, a referendum followed. On the 16th of March 2014, Crimea was voted to become part of Russia. The vote was not politically legitimate and this made Ukraine to set their toes on alert. For Vladimir Putin, it was libration for Crimea but for the rest of the world it was simply annexation.

(Ukrainian president)

The most powerful parts of Ukraine are East and West of Ukraine. Russians in East Ukraine began to seize territories. Ukraine didn't launch an all-out offensive at first but on 17th of July 2014, plane carrying 298 passengers was shot down by rebels (Russian Rebel). Russian rebels are Russian speaking people in Ukraine. Uk decided to take action and they flushed out the rebels. Not long ago, Russian armies steeped in. Ukraine doesn't want these people in their country and they also want to take over all the military bases in Ukraine (including acclaimed Russian bases in Russian speaking areas of Ukraine). Russian didn't agree but after serious meeting, the two countries agreed on ceasefire and Military withdrawal.

Election.
Ukraine agree to hold elections in the rebels-held areas. 8 years later, Minsk accord agreement ( ceasefire and Military withdrawal agreement) remained unimplemented.

Ukraine covers long european region of these soviet unions compared to Russia. Ukraine boasts of natural resources especially in East Ukraine where Russian speaking people live. This is more reason why Russia are claiming territories. In west and East of Ukraine it is unfortunate that Rebel leaders are leading especially in Donetsk and Luansk which are the most powerful cities in West and East Ukraine.

What does Putin want?

He wants NATO to stop expanding. NATO means North Atlantic Treaty Organization- it is a military alliance. The family of NATO include Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Italy, France etc. All this countries empower one another during troubles or wars internal crisis.

Ukraine wants to join NATO but Putin want Ukraine's exclusion and other soviet family. Putin wants to revive Ukraine Imperialism. He wants Ukraine to be under Russian.

(Vladimir Putin

According to history, Ukraine was forcefully and illegally crucified. Before 1930's, Russia invaded Ukraine and they dominant the country. After sometimes, they gained powered and banned Ukrainians language. Russians started teaching Ukrainians their own language. They also depolutated them by killing their children. According to history, in 1940's Russians relocated to their today's domain (country) but some remained in Ukraine. This are the people termed Rebels today in Ukraine. And this is why East and Western Ukraine have Russian speaking people. This history tells is that it was Russia that pre-colonized Ukraine. Putin still wants to revive this imperialism forgetting that the world has moved on.

In 2019, 72 per cent of Ukrainians voted for Volodymir Zelensky and since that time he has become critical of Russia and a Ukraine's voice.

Ukrainians' stances
1. They want to be independent of Russia.
2. They want to claim their military territories in Russians speaking areas in Ukraine.
3. They want to stage a civil resistance against Russia.
4. They want to join NATO

What do you think of Putin's political oppression against Ukraine?
